| $100,000 | $75,236.92 | 24.8% |
Single filer, paid biweekly, standard W-4, no pre-tax deductions.
Nebraska withholds state income tax on a six-band schedule for 2026, from 2.26% to 4.6% of annualized wages after $2,440 for each allowance on Form W-4N. Nothing else comes out for the state: Nebraska has no local income taxes and no employee-paid payroll premiums. Figures follow IRS Publication 15-T and the Nebraska Department of Revenue 2026 Circular EN percentage method.
How Nebraska paycheck taxes work
Four tax lines come out of a Nebraska paycheck: federal income tax, Social Security (6.2% up to $184,500), Medicare (1.45%), and Nebraska state withholding. No Nebraska city or county taxes wages, and the state takes no disability, paid-leave, or unemployment deduction from employees. Anything else on your stub is your own election: 401(k), health premiums, HSA, and similar benefits.
The Circular EN percentage method annualizes your pay, subtracts $2,440 for each allowance on your Form W-4N, and applies the schedule for your status. Single filers (the same schedule covers head of household and married filing separately) owe nothing on the first $3,430, then 2.26%, 3.22% from $6,710, 4.21% from $21,810, 4.35% from $31,610, 4.48% from $40,130, and 4.6% above $75,370. The married schedule starts its zero bracket at $8,190 and reaches 4.6% at $82,920. With no W-4N on file, employers withhold as single with zero allowances.
W-4N allowances drive most of the variation between two people on the same salary: one for yourself, one if you hold only one job, one for a spouse, one for each Nebraska dependent, and one for head of household. Each allowance removes $2,440 of annual wages from the schedule. Nebraska also sets a floor that this calculator does not apply: when claimed allowances push withholding under 1.5% of taxable wages, the employer must withhold at least half the single-one-allowance amount unless you document the claim.
Nebraska's 2026 tables are lower across the board. The allowance rose from $2,360 to $2,440, the upper bands fell from a 4.91% to 5.37% range in 2025 to 4.35% to 4.6%, and the flat rate on bonuses paid separately dropped from 5% to 3.5%; this site's bonus calculator applies 3.5% for Nebraska. On the return side, 2026 rates are 2.46%, 3.51%, and 4.55%, with the top rate scheduled to reach 3.99% in 2027 under LB 754. Nebraska has no reciprocity agreements.

Nebraska paycheck FAQ
How much is taken out of a paycheck in Nebraska?
Federal income tax, Social Security at 6.2%, Medicare at 1.45%, and Nebraska withholding of 2.26% to 4.6% of annualized wages after $2,440 per W-4N allowance. There is no local income tax and no state payroll premium anywhere in Nebraska. The quick answer above shows the result for a single filer on $60,000 paid biweekly, and the calculator recomputes it for your pay, filing status, and allowances.
What is the Nebraska income tax rate for 2026?
Three rates on your return: 2.46%, 3.51%, and 4.55%. LB 754 brought the top rate down to 4.55% for 2026 and takes it to 3.99% in 2027. Many calculators still show the 2025 top rate or an older four-bracket table. Paycheck withholding runs on a separate six-band Circular EN schedule from 2.26% to 4.6%, which is why the amount on your stub and the tax on your return differ.
How much is a Nebraska withholding allowance worth in 2026?
$2,440 of annual wages per allowance, up from $2,360 in 2025. You can claim one for yourself, one if you have only one job, one for a spouse, one for each Nebraska dependent, and one for head of household. In the 4.6% top band each allowance is worth $112.24 a year in lower withholding; in the 3.22% band it is worth $78.57. Enter your allowances in the calculator to see the effect.
Why is my Nebraska employer withholding more than my W-4N allowances suggest?
Nebraska sets a minimum. If the allowances you claim would bring state withholding under 1.5% of your taxable wages, your employer must withhold at least half of the single-one-allowance amount (married-two-allowance for married filers) unless you provide documentation for the allowances, such as proof of dependents. Employers face penalties up to $1,000 per employee, so many ask for the paperwork first. This calculator shows the unadjusted formula result.
What changed in Nebraska paycheck withholding for 2026?
Three things, all in the 2026 Circular EN. The allowance rose from $2,360 to $2,440. Every band was re-scaled downward, with the upper rates moving from a 4.91% to 5.37% range in 2025 to 4.35%, 4.48%, and 4.6%. The flat rate on separately paid bonuses fell from 5% to 3.5%. Together they track LB 754, which cut the top income tax rate to 4.55% for 2026.
How are bonuses taxed in Nebraska?
A bonus paid separately from regular wages is withheld at a flat 3.5% for Nebraska in 2026, down from 5% in 2025, plus the 22% federal flat rate and FICA. Calculators still quoting 5% for Nebraska bonuses are a year behind. When a bonus is combined with a regular paycheck, the normal Circular EN percentage method applies to the total. This site's bonus calculator applies 3.5% for Nebraska.
